GEORGE TOWN: A lorry carrying cooking gas turned on its side after it was involved in an accident during rush hour traffic at Penang Bridge on Thursday (Sept 12).

The incident, which occurred at about 6pm, caused a massive jam on the island-bound side of the bridge, from Perai to the island.

The incident led to the left and middle lanes of the Penang Bridge to be blocked by the overturned vehicle.

A portal reported that passing motorists helped pick up the cooking gas cylinders which were scattered on the bridge.

As of 7pm, the the official PLUS Traffic X (formerly known as Twitter) account reported that the left lane of the Penang Bridge was still closed and there was an 11km traffic crawl due to the incident.
