Unemployed man gets nine-year jail term for assaulting niece


MUAR: The Sessions Court here has sentenced an unemployed man to a nine-year jail term for causing serious injury to his 14-year-old niece.

Sessions judge Narimah Badruddin gave the decision against Azman Mohamed Nor, 48, who also ordered the imprisonment to start from his sentencing date.

She also slapped RM5,000 in fines against Azman here on Thursday (Sept 12) in default of five months imprisonment for the offence.

On Aug 20, Azman already pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court for intentionally causing serious injury to his 14-year-old niece, Norazmina Mohd Razi, by using a wooden stick.

He had committed the offence at a house in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh between 1am and 3am on Aug 9.

The charge is framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous injury, which carries a 20-year prison sentence, along with a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

He was also previously charged in the Magistrate’s Court for the murder of his elderly parents in a house in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh.

Azman was accused of murdering his mother, Ara Ab Hamit, 76, his father, Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82 and niece Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11, between 1am and 3am on Aug 9.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Arif Marzuki prosecuted while Azman was unrepresented.

Previously, the media reported that an elderly couple together with their granddaughter died in a pre-dawn fire in a house in Kampung Paya Redan, Pagoh, on Aug 9.
