PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s pharmaceutical industry is set for a massive revolution with the collaboration between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and ChemPartner, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
The MCA president praised the move as another significant milestone towards enhancing UKM’s capabilities in medicine and health sciences.
This comes after UKM and the China-based pharmaceutical company signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build a medical and service hub in Malaysia.
“By leveraging ChemPartner’s global expertise, this cooperation aims to establish a leading medical and service hub in Malaysia, focusing on research, development, and commercialisation of innovative medical products and biotechnologies.
“This historic partnership will position Malaysia to one day help drive significant advancements and contribute to the future of global health and medical science,” he wrote in a Facebook post yesterday.
Dr Wee, whom Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi referred to as a special adviser, said the event also marked the opening of ChemPartner’s ADC Global Centre of Excellence.
The centre represented a major advancement in pharmaceutical innovation and underscored ChemPartner’s commitment to transforming the industry through cutting-edge research and development, he added.
Dr Wee was one of the many important guests invited to attend the agreement signing ceremony, which was held in Shanghai, China, yesterday.
Also present at the ceremony were Ahmad Zahid, Malaysia’s Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad, ChemPartner chairman Datuk William Woo and UKM board of directors chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohamad Abd Razak.
“Congratulations to ChemPartner, UKM and all involved in this historic partnership. Together, we are poised to drive significant advancements and contribute to the future of global health and medical science,” Dr Wee said.
