AN engineer in Taiwan was found dead in a public toilet after drinking a one-litre cocktail within eight minutes, China Press reported.
Identified only as Zhang, the 25-year-old was on a night out with friends when they went to a pub and decided to take on its “One Litre of Tears” challenge.
Participants were required to finish a litre of passion fruit cocktail made up of 70% vodka and 30% ice.
Apparently, those who managed to complete the challenge would get the drink for free.
The passion fruit cocktail was a new drink the bar had invented to attract more female customers.
After finishing his drink, Zhang walked 200m to a nearby shopping mall where he climbed up a flight of stairs to get to a toilet.
He then passed out in a cubicle.
Zhang was discovered by security guards the next morning. By then, he was already dead.
Family members told the press that Zhang had no major illness and were puzzled about his sudden death.
The bar halted the gimmick after Zhang’s death.
> Malaysian rapper Namewee will resume his Big Bird concert tour after it was cancelled abruptly last year, China Press reported.
He said he managed to negotiate new terms with organisers in several countries to help him restart his tour.
It was earlier reported that Namewee held the first concert at the Taipei Arena on April 1 last year.
However, his 15 subsequent shows in other cities were cancelled after organisers were threatened by unnamed parties.
Namewee, 41, was estimated to have suffered huge losses.
“But the worst part was that our morale suffered,” he said.
Namewee has courted controversy over the years due to his use of provocative themes in his work.
