KOTA KINABALU: Over 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the national-level Malaysia Day celebrations at the Padang Merdeka here on Sept 16.

Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew encouraged all Malaysians in the state to come together and celebrate in the spirit of unity and pride.

Themed “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka”, the event will feature a special signing of the Malaysia Day Commemorative Book by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

"The signing ceremony will be witnessed by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil and me, who are joint chairmen of the event," she told the media here on Friday (Sept 13).

She added that the event is held in rotation between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia, with Sabah hosting the celebration this year.

A highlight of the event will be a special performance titled "Rumah Madani Jiwa Merdeka," showcasing various aspects of Malaysia's achievements, reflecting the nation's unity, dynamic progress, and transformation.

“While awaiting the main event, pre-show activities will be held from 5pm to 7.30pm, which will include performances from artists and a special appearance by superhero mascots. Post-event performances will continue after the fireworks display and the departure of the dignitaries," she added.

Additionally, there will be special guest performances from artists such as Akim, Stacy, Amir Jahari, Gary Chaw, and Faizal Tahir.

She added that the first 5,000 visitors will receive reusable bags.

“We hope that visitors will keep the place clean,” she said.
