Teen rider crushed by falling tree

Unfortunate timing: Authorities surveying the scene of the incident where the teenager was killed by a falling tree in Alor Gajah.

ALOR GAJAH: A teenage motorcyclist was killed after being crushed by a falling tree while riding his motorcycle along Jalan Perindustrian Kelemak here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah identified the victim as 18-year-old Ikhmal Hakimi Hasrul Rizuan, who died on the spot in yesterday’s 6.30am incident.

He said the victim was riding his machine from Alor Gajah to his home in Taman Lendu Bakti Masjid Tanah.

“The impact threw the victim 30m from the site where the tree fell,” he said.

Supt Ashari said the victim was on his way home after finishing his night shift at a factory. The body has been sent to the Alor Gajah Hospital for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, a fallen tree damaged the roof of a toilet at a primary school in Sabah’s southwestern Kuala Penyu district yesterday morning.

Kuala Penyu Fire and Rescue Department station chief Nelson Ponji said no one was hurt in the 8.40am incident at SK Pengiran Jaya in Pimping, Membakut.

A team later arrived to remove the trunk and transferred the pieces to a safe location.
