Teenager faces sentencing for reckless motorcycle incident injuring cop

SEREMBAN: A 17-year-old boy who pleaded guilty to a charge of ploughing into a policeman's motorcycle while riding against traffic will be sentenced by the Magistrate's Court here on Nov 20.

Magistrate Marlissa Mohd Fahmy said on Friday (Sept 13) that the court would also consider the teenager's probationary report before he is sentenced.

The Form Five student, who had to be brought to the court in a wheelchair, had allegedly committed the offence around 2am on July 28 this year at KM36 of the Kajang-Seremban Expressway.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 with riding his motorcycle recklessly and against the flow of traffic and crashing into 36-year-old Corporal Mohamed Allif Adi's bike.

When the incident happened, the policeman was conducting a traffic operation with his team. He suffered serious injuries.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan had earlier asked the court for another date for sentencing pending a probationary report as the teenager was a juvenile.

Marlissa allowed the teenager to be released on a RM1,500 bail.
