Counterfeit printer cartridges seized in raid

IPOH: A total of 493 suspected counterfeit printer cartridges were seized during a raid on a shop in Jalan Pasir Puteh by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

Its Perak director Datuk Kamaluddin Ismail said the raid on Thursday was prompted by complaints from registered trademark representatives and preliminary intelligence gathered by the Perak office.

“We discovered 493 cartridges suspected of being falsely trademarked, an offence under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.

“This raid was conducted in the presence of the trademark owner’s representative, and the investigation revealed that these cartridges were also marketed and sold through ecommerce platforms,” he said yesterday.

Kamaluddin added that the total value of the seized items was estimated at RM4,667, Bernama reported.

In addition to the cartridges, several business documents were also seized for investigation.

“We arrested a local man who identified himself as the company manager responsible for the premises.

“We want to remind and warn all parties against selling goods without the proper authorisation or permission from the trademark owner,” he said.
