KLUANG: Perikatan Nasional will announce its manifesto for the Mahkota by-election soon, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the manifesto will focus on tackling the high cost of living and supporting people of all races and religions.

The Perikatan chairman and Bersatu president said that while the by-election outcome will not affect the Federal or state government, the party aims to send a strong message that the welfare of the people must take priority.

“Some have said the voter composition - 55% Malay and the rest non-Malay - presents a challenge, but we are ready to serve all communities.

“Our election machinery is led by elections director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Johor Perikatan chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal and has been engaging with grassroots supporters since last week.

“With our experience in governing at both Federal and state levels, we are confident we can deliver significant benefits to the people of Mahkota,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters at the nomination centre for the Mahkota by-election at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail here on Saturday (Feb 14).

Muhyiddin also mentioned that their candidate, Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, plans to open an office as an assemblyman, which will include community leaders from all races to ensure everyone's concerns are addressed.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Haizan, 61, emphasised that his primary focus would be on the welfare of Mahkota residents.

“If elected as the assemblyman, I will prioritise addressing the issues faced by the people here. Their welfare will be my top priority,” he said.

The Mahkota seat became vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

Barisan is banking on Syed Hussien, 40, who is also Kluang Umno youth chief, to defend the seat.
