No bail for babysitter in daycare death case


ALOR GAJAH: A babysitter has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with the murder of an eight-month-old boy at a daycare centre in Taman Kelemak Utama here.

No plea was entered when Nor Afifah Abdullah Suhaimi, 34, was charged before magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee yesterday, as murder comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years, with caning not less than 12 times upon conviction.

The woman, a mother of three, was charged with causing the death of Muhammad Al Fateh Amri Mohd Fikry Amri.

The alleged offence took place at the centre located at KM32, Jalan Kelemak Utama, between 7.30am and 8.30am on Sept 6.

State prosecution director Ahmad Sazali Omar did not offer any bail for the accused, who was represented by lawyer Hermes Media Putra Ibrahim.

The court fixed Nov 13 as the next mention date.

It was reported that the baby died shortly after he was sent to a nursery in Alor Gajah by his mother and grandfather at 7.05am on Sept 6.

The mother then received a call from the nursery, asking her to pick up her child.

Upon arriving, she found that the infant’s body had turned blue and his nose was bleeding.

The baby was immediately taken to Hospital Alor Gajah but he was pronounced dead.

Police had then detained the accused on Sept 7.Muhammad Al Fateh’s parents, Major Mohd Fikry Amri Abd Halim and Sabrina Hakiem Zaini, were devastated by the loss, especially when they had waited for 13 years to have a child.
