KUALA LUMPUR: A drug syndicate has been busted with the arrest of three people and the seizure of more than RM5mil worth of drugs following several raids in the city.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said police arrested the first suspect, a 30-year-old man, at a parking lot of a luxury condominium on Sept 11.
“We seized 182.9g of methamphetamine after inspecting his sling bag.
“We believe he worked as a storekeeper for the syndicate.
“He then directed police to another condominium where we detained a 33-year-old man, believed to be a drug runner, on the same day,” Comm Khaw told a press conference at the KL police headquarters yesterday.
He said an array of drugs was seized from the unit, including 112.23kg of methamphetamine, 29.06kg of cannabis, 7.51kg of Ecstasy pills and 6.07kg of MDMA – all worth about RM5.88mil.
“The third suspect, a 30-year-old man, was also detained on the same day at a restaurant here.
“We believe he was also a drug runner,” Comm Khaw added.
He said the syndicate had been operating for more than six months.
“We believe they got their drug supply from a neighbouring country.
“We are investigating all aspects, including whether those detained were part of an underground gang,” he said.
He added that the drugs seized could have been supplied to 660,500 addicts.
“We also seized two cars and RM750 in cash,” Comm Khaw said.
Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate paid a monthly rent of RM2,000 each for the condominium units, he added.
“The storekeeper was paid a monthly salary of RM5,000 while the runners were paid between RM3,000 and RM5,000 a month.
“All three suspects have been remanded until Sept 18. They tested negative for drugs.
“We will conduct further investigations to uncover other members of the syndicate, including the mastermind,” he said.
Comm Khaw urged the public to provide relevant information to the police by contacting the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
