HULU SELANGOR: An attempted abduction was halted by members of the public here after the nine-year-old victim managed to escape from the suspect.

In a statement today, Hulu Selangor deputy OCPD Dept Supt Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus said that the victim's mother lodged a report on Sept 13 stating that an unknown woman almost abducted her daughter as she was waiting for the school van in Bukit Beruntung here.

"Investigations showed that the suspect, a local, had attempted to abduct the girl but the latter managed to run into a nearby shop while shouting for help. Members of the public assisted the girl while the suspect escaped when passersby attempted to detain her," he said.

He urged parents to be more aware of their children's whereabouts at all times as it could lead to potential opportunities for criminals to take advantage.
