PAS will close Genting casino if it has jurisdiction, says party's Pahang branch

TEMERLOH: PAS will close the Genting casino if it is within the party's jurisdiction to do so, says the party's Pahang deputy commissioner Datuk Andansura Rabu.

"If we have the power in the state and we can do it, then we will do it. In the case of Genting, the power may not be absolutely on the state's side and we may need the federal government as well. So we may not be able to do it," he said.

"We will take action according to the law to abolish whatever is detrimental to society, such as gambling," Andansura told reporters at the 70th PAS muktamar in Kerdau here on Sunday (Sept 15).

He said such an action would have to be carried out according to the law, adding thatopposition to gambling is not limited to Muslims but is shared by adherents of other faiths as well.

"There is no religious excuse in this issue. This is a social excuse. Gambling is harmful, so it needs to be addressed. However, it must be done according to the law and the constitution," said Anandasura.

"If the people of Pahang do not like gambling and want us to close down gambling, then vote for PAS," he added.

PAS was part of the federal government from 1974 to 1977 and again from 2020 to 2022.
