Sim-Lim combo good for Penang DAP's future, says Chow

GEORGE TOWN: The suggestion for Human Resources Minister Steven Sim to be the next Penang DAP chairman should be considered as the party looks to the future, says Chow Kon Yeow.

The outgoing state party chairman added that it was, however, entirely up to the delegates to decide at next Sunday's (Sept 22) elections.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had suggested Sim as chairman with the support of Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying.

“I believe the secretary-general evaluated this option carefully before proposing the leadership combination of Sim-Lim," Penang Chief Minister Chow told the state government's Buletin Mutiara on Friday (Sept 13).

In a recent interview with a Chinese-language portal, Loke said he believed that the duo would strengthen the party.

Loke suggested that Sim lead the party in the state with Lim continuing to serve as secretary.

Penang DAP has 296 branches, 117 of them on the mainland.

Each branch is eligible to send seven delegates to the convention: its chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, publicity secretary, and the women’s affairs secretary.

In addition to branch delegates, all MPs, assemblymen and incumbent state committee members are also eligible to participate as delegates.
