The formation of Malaysia has brought benefits for all citizens, say Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The formation of Malaysia has brought many benefits to Malaysians across the country, including those in Sabah, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Hajiji said that it is still a "long and winding" journey in building the country and there would be more challenges to face, but he was confident that people would work together in unity for the nation.

He said Sabah appreciates the unity government's concern for the people of the country.

Hajiji said the theme of the Malaysia Day celebrations "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka" was an important reflection of the country's prosperity and progress.

"Malaysia Madani" six core values reflect our vision to form a resilient, harmonious and progressive society," he said.

"Jiwa Merdeka" describes the freedom of Malaysians from negative elements and emphasises the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.

"It also involves broader aspects of thinking, social and economic integration in our efforts to build a strong and harmonious union among the people," he said in his message in conjunction with Malaysia Day 2024 celebrations here.

Hajiji said that the values of Madani Malaysia are in line with the aspirations of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) policy that guides the state government's comprehensive development plans to strengthen the economy, improve people's well-being and empower sustainable development.

"The combination of the values of Madani Malaysia and Sabah Maju Jaya is a manifestation of our determination to see Sabah and Malaysia continue to progress in an atmosphere that is safe and prosperous.

"For us in Sabah, the spirit of unity and mutual respect between races will continue to be defended as we move forward. Unity among the people is key to the success of Malaysia in general and Sabah in particular," he said.

"Let us together strengthen the spirit of unity and continue to work hard to ensure that Malaysia remains a prosperous country, sovereign and respected internationally", Hajiji added.

He said Malaysia Day is a very meaningful celebration for all Malaysians.

The formation of Malaysia marks the historic moment of Malaya, Sarawak and Sabah forming the Federation of Malaysia as a sovereign and independent nation.

“May the celebration of Malaysia Day this year provide fresh inspiration and renewed strength to continue the struggle for the betterment of the country”, he added..
