Mahkota polls: Cops approve 13 campaign permits as of 3pm Sept 16


KLUANG: Police have approved 13 campaign and ceramah permits up to 3pm on Monday (Sept 16), the third day of campaigning for the Mahkota state seat by-election.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said two permits were approved for Barisan Nasional and 11 for Perikatan Nasional.

One police report was lodged since the start of campaigning, involving a man who refuted an accusation sent to him via text message, he said.

“The case has been classified as 'no offence disclosed' (NOD),” he added.

The Mahkota state constituency is currently in the spotlight as the by-election, set for Sept 28, draws near.

The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled early voting for Sept 24.

The contest will be a straight fight between Barisan's Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

The by-election was called following the death of Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2 while she was receiving treatment at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom here.
