TEMERLOH: PAS is not a pasar malam party where leaders can be changed easily like cheap goods, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang in an impassioned address reminding members not to act against the party’s interests.
The PAS president said members should not act as opposition within their own government.
“Acting against their own government, elected representatives, and even the mentri besar, and undermining their own government is counterproductive,” Abdul Hadi said in his winding-up speech at the 70th PAS muktamar in Kerdau here yesterday.
He pointed out that some delegates had discussed internal matters during the muktamar without adhering to proper etiquette for advising and handling disagreements.
Abdul Hadi, who is Marang MP, said members must be aware that weaknesses would always exist in states and constituencies won by PAS.
“Just a day after a house is completed, there will always be those who are dissatisfied and call for it to be demolished and rebuilt.
“The work of tearing down a house when it is finished due to its deficiencies, or selling it, means that we end up living in the field because we are dissatisfied with its shortcomings. Is this a wise approach?
“Winning an election just a month ago, and then calling for a change in the elected representative, exco members, or even the mentri besar, is an act of indiscipline.
“Sometimes, minor issues, such as an elected representative not visiting their home, are turned into problems.
“Within weaknesses that lead to mistakes, there are fundamental and ancillary issues,” Abdul Hadi said.
He urged party members to understand the etiquette of working within a group as failing to do so could lead to internal party crises.
“PAS is an Islamist party, not a pasar malam party where leaders can be changed as easily as cheap goods,” he said.
