Keep backing Johor govt efforts to boost economic growth, Dr Wee tells biz group

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has urged the Johor Baru Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry to continue supporting Johor's infrastructure development and enhance local economic growth.

"In my speech, I highlighted the Chamber's contributions to the national economy and its role in local development.

"I also reported on the economic benefits that the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System project, which I promoted during my time at the Transport Ministry, will bring to Johor," he said on Facebook on Tuesday (Sept 17) after a session with Chamber leaders.

He was accompanied by Johor exco member and Paloh assemblyman Lee Ting Han.

"Everyone agreed that a stable political environment and an open-minded government are key factors for national and state prosperity.

"The state government, led by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, is a perfect example of moderate and progressive governance and worthy of our collective support," he said.

The Chamber also made eight recommendations in a memorandum it handed to Lee.

Also present were MCA vice-president and investment advisor to the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Wira Lim Ban Hong, MCA vice-president Datuk Lawrence Low, treasurer general Tan Tuan Peng, central committee member Senator Datuk Lim Pay Hen, and other state MCA leaders.

In another post on Tuesday, Dr Wee said he spent some time in Kluang to have tea with Chinese voters.

"Many of them have returned home from Kuala Lumpur to Kluang to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with loved ones.

"Both MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng and I had the opportunity to interact with these voters.

"I am glad that many of them have indicated their support for candidate no 1 for the Mahkota by-election, Syed Hussien of Barisan Nasional, and will vote for this young man who speaks fluent Chinese and can connect well with the Chinese community on Sept 28," he said.
