Penang hiker killed after falling into drain during storm


BUKIT MERTAJAM: The body of a 50-year-old woman who fell into a drain while hiking in Cherok To'kun has been found.

The body of the deceased, identified as Oh Ai Chin from Simpang Ampat, was retrieved some 5km away at about 1pm on Tuesday (Sept 17).

"The victim is believed to have fallen into the 2m-deep drain while hiking at the hills," said the Fire and Rescue Department in a statement.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been handed over to the police.

Penang has been lashed by bad weather over the past three days, with trees uprooted in almost 200 areas and flash floods reported in over 70 areas.
