SOME 700 members of the Ulu Teh Rukun Tetangga came together to build a replica of the Petronas Twin Towers using 3,000 used mineral water bottles in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
Its chairman Ahmad Hazrul Syafiq Abd Rahman, 33, said the replica portrays the towers’ significance in modern architecture and symbolising a united Malaysia, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Ulu Teh village development and safety committee chairman Mohd Ghazali Ismail said although some of the villagers have yet to see the Petronas Twin Towers in person, the replica is good enough to be informative to the seniors and children in the village in Jerantut, Pahang.
Villager Basri Abd Kadir said the villagers themselves took the initiative to gather and collect the used mineral water bottles.
“About RM600 was spent on additional material to create the replica. We are proud to have our wish to make this come true,” said Basri.
> Durian in Hulu Cheka district in Jerantut, Pahang, have a unique taste as the trees are said to have absorbed minerals from the soils, which is said to have gold.
Known as durian kampung, it is said that the durian trees first grew in forests before villagers started planting them in their backyards, Kosmo! reported.
Kampung Ulu Cheka village head Ahmad Shah Jamlus said the durian’s unique taste makes them a popular fruit.“Durian from around here taste better as they have absorbed the different minerals in the land.”
Ahmad Shah said villagers used to plant durian trees on the hills, known as “durian tuang”.
“Durian tuang” act as the “protector” of durian kampung trees to ensure they are not affected by diseases and that they would produce more durian, he claimed.
