Armed Forces will soon ‘Jimat’ with discounted necessities one Saturday a month, says Khaled

KLUANG: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) can soon enjoy necessities at discounted prices on the last Saturday of each month, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The Defence Minister said the Jualan Istimewa Madani Angkatan Tentera (Jimat) sales programme would be introduced at all 93 army camps nationwide.

“The initiative will kick off on the last Saturday of this month, where for 12 times a year, the armed forces can shop for basic goods at discounts of 22% to 30%.

“At the Jimat programme, they can buy a bag of 10kg rice, normally priced at RM38.30, at a discounted price of RM35.20.

“Instant noodles that are usually sold at RM5.25 will be priced RM3.50 per pack,” he said in his opening remarks during Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s visit to Kem Mahkota here on Thursday (Sept 19).

Mohamed Khaled also said that at a frequency of 12 times a year, Jimat would be held more times compared to Jualan Rahmah, which was done two to three times a year.

He added that in the initial stage, 28 basic items such as cooking oil, powdered drinks and flour were included in the discount list and more items would be added for the sales programme from time to time.

“The Jimat programme is not only for Kem Mahkota but for all ATM camps nationwide as our way of showing appreciation for the armed forces for their sacrifice and service, he said.
