KUALA NERUS: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) has prepared 16,000 personnel nationwide to face the arrival of the north-east monsoon season.
APM Chief Commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed said the number includes regular officers as well as volunteers, who will be deployed in stages as needed.
He added that over 1,000 assets, including boats, four-wheel drive vehicles, ambulances and lorries have been placed on standby and are in optimal condition.
"We have identified all flood-risk areas and locations prone to disasters such as landslides.
"In Terengganu, for instance, there are 459 locations with the highest number in the Dungun district.
"Every year, we prepare plans for each state strategically. If severe or unexpected flooding occurs in one state, another state will assist.
"So if Kelantan faces a crisis, Perak and Kedah are its strategic partners," he said after the closing ceremony of the 2024 Eastern Zone Civil Defence Assembly (Hipa) held here today.
Meanwhile, Aminurrahim also reminded the public to remain vigilant regarding weather conditions and to be cautious of hazardous surroundings.
He advised the public to check the safety of their homes, trees and buildings and to report any concerns to local representatives or local authorities for further action.
"Although we are prepared with various assets and equipment, public awareness is crucial.
"Always stay alert to the weather and download the Malaysian Meteorological Department's (MetMalaysia) myCuaca app for the latest information.
"If you notice any structures or trees that could pose a danger to the public, report them to the authorities immediately," he said.
He noted that, so far, the APM headquarters has not issued any instructions to suspend leave for personnel and officers, as there is still time until the monsoon transition. – Bernama
