Firemen rescue woman from fifth floor of Penang apartment


GEORGE TOWN: Firemen have rescued a 33-year-old woman from the ledge of an apartment building in Gurney Drive here.

In a 17-second video, the woman is seen on a ledge located on the fifth floor of the building.

She speaks with a Fire and Rescue Department officer who eventually manages to coax her to step back into the unit.

In a statement, the department said they received a report of a woman standing on the ledge of the apartment at 1.41pm on Thursday (Sept 19).

"The woman, in her 30s... is believed to be experiencing depression and stress.

"She was successfully rescued after being persuaded by us (Fire and Rescue Department) and her friends.

"She has been handed over to the police for further action," read the statement.
