MACC remands two officers in KLIA 'counter setting' probe


SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand two enforcement officers for several days for allegedly being in cahoots with a syndicate allowing foreigners into the country via KLIA and KLIA2.

It is learnt that one of those remanded was the mastermind behind the illegal activity.

The order was signed by magistrate Fairuz Syuhada Amran following an application by MACC.

Fairuz allowed one suspect to be detained for five days and the other for seven days.

A source said the two, aged between 30 and 40s, were believed to be part of a counter-setting syndicate.

Counter-setting refers to foreigners entering the country without proper document inspections, being made to go through designated and predetermined lanes at entry points.

The suspects were believed to have been working hand-in-hand with agents of syndicates.

It is learnt that one suspect was detained at 3am and the other at 5.40pm on Wednesday (Sept 18) when they were called in to have their statements recorded.

State MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrests and said they were being probed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act.
