Mahkota polls: Muda denies offering any assistance to Perikatan

KLUANG: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) denies it will assist Perikatan Nasional in the Mahkota by-election.

Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, the acting Muda president, refuted Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's claim and said there was no change in the party's stand.

"Muda has been very clear in its decision not to participate in the Mahkota by-election.

"This is the clear focus since I assumed the role as the president of Muda. I want to build the party through the Muda rejuvenation campaign," she said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 19).

Amira, who is also Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, said any decision to join a coalition would be announced officially.

"At this time, there have been no discussions about this matter," she said.

Meanwhile, Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi added that the party had collectively decided not to contest in the by-election.

"Muda will focus on rebuilding the party after going through a series of elections and developments.

"Muda is open to holding discussions and negotiations with any party, but they must be discussed and decided by the central executive committee," he said.

In a press conference after a Perikatan ceramah Wednesday night (Sept 18), Azmin claimed that Muda had expressed its willingness to help them out in the election.

"Muda is here. They told me that they wanted to help out in the election. So, I am very grateful," he said.

Last Thursday (Sept 12), Muda announced that they would not be fielding a candidate for the Mahkota by-election.

"Following meetings at the Johor Muda committee and central executive committee levels, we have decided not to contest in the Mahkota by-election.

"For now, Johor Muda has chosen to focus on our tours across all districts in the state as part of our efforts to strengthen the grassroots and rejuvenate the party," said the party's state chairman Mohd Azrol Ab Rahanin in a statement.
