Real estate consultant remanded for bribery in Melaka

MELAKA: A real estate consultant has been remanded for five days to assist in an investigation related to accepting a bribe totalling RM3,000.

The remand order, effective until Sept 23, was issued by Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni against the 46-year-old male suspect on Thursday (Sept 19).

The suspect arrived at the Ayer Keroh Court Complex escorted by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He was arrested at 6.30pm on Wednesday (Sept 18) during an ambush by MACC officers at an eatery here.

The suspect is accused of allegedly soliciting and accepting the bribe from a contractor as an inducement to commission him to construct a single-storey residential house in the Melaka Tengah district.

State MACC Director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
