IPOH: With the ongoing stormy weather in the country, holidaymakers from various parts of Malaysia are taking extra precautions such as checking weather updates regularly and avoiding risky areas such as beaches, rivers and flood-prone areas.
“I constantly check updates from MetMalaysia to stay informed about the weather,” said Ahmad Ikmal Rosli, 42, a teacher at a government school in Putrajaya who is spending two days in Ipoh with his wife and their five children.
“We are always prepared, carrying umbrellas in case of rain and avoiding places like beaches and areas known for flooding,” he said when met.
Nurul Hafizah Mohd @ Amran, 40, a civil servant member from Pahang, said her family also kept tabs on weather alerts and news on social media.
“We planned our holiday at safer destinations. So far, everything is going smoothly, but we are staying cautious and alert.
“I hope the weather will go back to normal soon,” she said.
For Nurul Suhana Mat Salleh, 34, a housewife from Penang, weather concerns have altered her travel plans.
“We initially planned to visit the beaches but due to the bad weather, we decided to go to safer places like eateries instead.
“The weather has been quite harsh, so we are taking precautions to avoid any potential disasters,” she said.
Azza Nor Azmira Mazlan, 26, a civil servant from Perak, highlighted the importance of avoiding beaches, rivers and waterfalls during this period.
“Because of the current natural disasters, activities near the water are unsafe.
“We are planning to head south tomorrow and are closely monitoring weather updates. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly,” she said.
Her sister Azza Nor Azwa Mazlan, 36, a kindergarten teacher, also emphasised the importance of checking weather reports.
“Before going on holiday, I always check the weather reports for safety,” she said, adding that information on weather updates or natural disasters can be easily obtained through social media and the public should be aware of it.
