KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue operation (SAR) has been mounted for a four-year-old girl who went missing after she was swept away by currents at a river in Tawau district on Friday.
Victim Putri Jimar was said to have been attempting to cross the river with her father when the incident occurred at Kampung Ranggu, Batu 8, Jalan Apas Tawau there.
The Fire and Rescue Department sent a team of six from their Tawau fire station to search for her following the report that came in at 6.06pm.
“The SAR was conducted via surface rescue method with the assistance of the police and civilians, where the search radius was two kilometres from where she was reported missing.
“She has not been found and the operation will be continued Saturday (Sept 21) morning,” said the Department spokesman, adding that information will be updated from time to time.
Meanwhile, in a separate case of missing persons reported at a waterfall recreational spot in Menggatal, Kota Kinabalu, the two individuals have reportedly made their way back safe.
An emergency call came in at 5.10pm regarding the possibility of the victims being lost in the forest after they failed to return to their residence at Kokol Hobbiton Rainforest there.
While no further details on the victims involved were provided, it was reported that a family of seven were earlier at the waterfall area when five of them left to return to their residence, while two others stayed behind.
“After three hours passed, the rest realised the other two family members had not returned from the waterfall, so the victim’s wife made a report to call for assistance.
“A team of 11 from Lintas fire station were sent to the location to conduct a search and rescue operation, but the victims managed to find their way back safely at 6.06pm.
“The operation ended at 6.30pm,” the spokesman added.
