KUCHING: The Unifor Complex will be a symbol of Sarawak's unity and inclusivity once completed, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

He said the RM73mil building, nearing completion, will serve as the headquarters for the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) and its charitable trust board.

"The actual progress is at 99.37% in terms of physical completion. We had some issues with the utilities, but they have been resolved.

"Now, we are working on the final fittings," he told reporters during a site visit to the complex on Friday (Sept 20).

Uggah mentioned that the occupation permit is expected to be issued within this month, after which renovation work will start for the Unifor and charitable trust offices.

"This means the place will be occupied by the first quarter of 2025," he said.

The Unifor Complex is significant as it symbolises Sarawak's inclusive policies outlined in the state's Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

"This is our pride in Sarawak, and we hope Unifor will continue to unite the people.

"Our target for PCDS 2030 is to be a high-income region, with economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.

"Unity is critical to achieving our vision for Sarawak's development," Uggah said.

He added that Unifor would coordinate the non-Islamic religious bodies in Sarawak to build unity and ensure development for the region.

Located at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, the Unifor Complex will have a nine-storey office tower and nine shoplots.

It will also have a hall that can accommodate 1,000 people.
