Malaysian poet honoured at Tamil Nadu event


LOCAL Tamil poet Arul Arumugam Kannan was honoured during the centennial celebration of ex-Tamil Nadu chief minister Kalaignar Karunanithi’s birthday, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The International Association of Tamil Research conferred the Mutthamizhar Kalignar Award on Arul Arumugam for his contributions to the Tamil literary scene.

The event in Chennai, India, also saw the launch of a new book of Karunanithi’s writings.

Hariharan and Thenmozhi received a total of 191,000 rupees (RM10,000) in cash gifts from friends and relatives.

Moi is a common custom at Indian weddings to help the couple start their married life and offset the wedding costs. But the young couple decided to donate the entire amount to the Aishwaryam Foundation to help cancer patients.
