Crackdown against GISB businesses continues

GOMBAK: Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) companies have been developing their businesses at Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, since 2013.

The commercial centre located in Jalan Desa, Bandar Country Homes, also houses its headquarters as well as various businesses, which were developed in stages.

Among the businesses run by GISB were a laundry outlet, a printing shop, a hotel, maternity and dental clinics, a beauty treatment centre, a salon, restaurants, a workshop, a used clothing shop, a media management centre, a bakery and a supermarket.

In addition, a public field was modified into an equestrian track, which could hold up to six horses.

There were also horse stables, a peacock cage and a cafe, which did not have the approval of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS).

A resident in his 50s, who only wished to be known as Zainal, said GISB leaders had good relations with the management of five mosques in Bandar Country Homes.

“Their leaders always assisted and cooperated with mosque management committees in the area, including giving donations for mosque events as well as organising Hari Raya open houses.“I don’t know their reasons (for doing so).

“Initially, their members were friendly to other residents but their behaviour changed as they preferred to mix among themselves,” he said.

Zainal hoped that the authorities would continue to monitor and ensure all remaining GISB members were tracked down.

Another resident, who refused to be named, said most GISB members isolated themselves and were not friendly to the local community.

“They seemed like they were living in their own world. I once sought medical treatment at one of their clinics. The staff there were not welcoming at all, maybe because they viewed me as an outsider,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 16 premises have been slapped with immediate closure notices following raids at the commercial centre yesterday. The raids were conducted as part of the operation codenamed Ops Global, comprising 50 police officers and 200 personnel from Selangor police headquarters as well as the Federal Reserve Unit and other agencies.

MPS said 12 of the 16 premises were found to be operating without valid licences. The remaining four premises were found to have breached licencing conditions.

“We revoked four business licences for non-compliance with the specified licencing conditions.

“We also issued 25 notices as the operators had made changes and additions to the premises and built structures without approval.

“Action was taken under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974,” it said in a statement, adding that 130 MPS personnel were involved.

During the operation, several illegal structures were also demolished.
