KLUANG: Business premises owned by Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) in five districts statewide have been raided, says Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.
He said the premises, including some that have been left empty, were raided under Ops Global, a nationwide operation by the police in collaboration with the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) and the state Welfare Department.
"The five districts that have been identified as the areas of focus for GISB are Mersing, Kluang, Segamat, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru.
"The IGP (Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain), will give an official statement with more details soon.
"For now, I could only give some of the information for the operation, which involves the MAINJ's enforcement division," he told a press conference at a hotel here on the sideline of the state-level Kemas Pra-Tahfiz programme here.
Also present at the programme were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Mohd Fared added that children were also rescued during the operation and are now under the care of the Johor Welfare Department.
"We have found materials related to Aurad Muhammadiah and there are also some new materials that may be related to the banned teachings.
"However, we would need to investigate first if these new materials are indeed related to the teachings," he said, adding that actions could be taken under the Johor Shariah Crime Enactment.
Asked if Johor will follow Perlis' move to issue a fatwa banning GISB, he said the matter will studied first.
On Friday (Sept 20), Perlis issued a fatwa declaring the GISB as a deviant sect.
Activities involving GISB were in the news recently after its charity houses, or care homes, were raided and 402 children rescued on Sept 11 amid allegations of sexual abuse, grooming and exploitation.
To date, the police have arrested scores of GISB leaders and followers, with some already charged in court.
