Opposition will try to destabilise unity government no matter what, says Zahid

KLUANG: The unity government will remain unshaken despite attempts by the Opposition to destabilise it, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional chairman said Perikatan Nasional would continue to look for ways to weaken the unity government.

"I am sure that whether there is a motion of confidence or non-confidence (in Parliament), Perikatan will still find other ways to destabilise the current government.

"However, the unity government has the support of 153 MPs, more than two-thirds (of Parliament seats).

"I am sure that the solidarity within this unity government will remain strong and unshaken, regardless of what the Opposition in Perikatan tries to do," he said.

He said this in a press conference after the officiating and groundbreaking ceremony of the Taman Kluang Perdana (Fasa 3A) affordable homes project here.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said this when asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's challenge for Perikatan to table a motion of no confidence against him.

In a speech during Himpunan Keadilan on Friday (Sept 20), Anwar said he urged the Opposition to do so to prove if he did not help the rakyat.

"We’re focused on doing our jobs. We want our economy to be formidable!

“If it was true that you want me to step down, table a motion of no confidence against me in the Dewan Rakyat next month,” he said on Friday evening (Sept 20).
