KUALA LUMPUR: A child seen whipped in a viral video was one of four siblings separated from their father in 2021 and rescued during Ops Global, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the child was rescued from a Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) care home in Tapah, Perak, following an operation on Saturday (Sept 21).
"Two of the children rescued had videos of them being punished by GISB members gone viral.
"One of them was whipped with a cane while another one was stepped on.
"The children are being cared for at the paediatric ward of a hospital," he told a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Monday (Sept 23).
He said that both cases are being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
"Initial checks revealed there were signs of neglect and trauma," he said.
Razarudin said, in the fourth phase of Ops Global on Saturday, 187 children–100 boys and 87 girls–were rescued.
"There were 59 children below five years old, 75 that were aged six to 12, 40 that were aged 13 to 17 and 13 who were 18 and above.
"All of them will go through the health checks before being placed at 11 shelter homes managed by the Welfare Department," he said.
The police inspected some 280 GISB-owned premises as part of Ops Global across the peninsular on Saturday.
