Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz says MATRADE’s continued participation in CAEXPO reflects their commitment to reinforcing bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and China — ART CHEN/The Star

THE Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) will be organising the participation of Malaysian companies at the 21st edition of the China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) 2024 which will take place from Sept 24 - 28 in Nanning, China.

The goal of participating in this event is to enhance Malaysia's export potential in emerging markets across China.

This year, 150 Malaysian organisations including 12 government ministries/agencies and four trade associations will be participating in the Malaysia pavilion which is one of the largest, post-Covid-19.

The Malaysia Pavilion at CAEXPO 2024 will feature key government agencies, including the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) and Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), alongside private sector participation.

The focus sectors include food and beverages, agriculture products, lifestyle, healthcare and wellness and the services sector.

Highlighting Malaysia’s diverse economic strengths, the pavilion will also feature the Agriculture Ministry, EXIM Bank, Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), as well as various state agencies and industry bodies, reinforcing the country’s commitment to regional trade and investment growth.

MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said "MATRADE’s 21st consecutive participation in CAEXPO is a testament to our commitment to elevating trade with China.”

MATRADE's involvement in CAEXPO has consistently yielded strong results. Over the past 20 editions, their participation in this event saw a cumulative involvement of over 2,000 Malaysia’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and generated significant sales figures amounting to RM6.3bil, reflecting valuable recognition of Malaysian products and services in China.

Malaysia's participation in CAEXPO this year aims to further strengthen and sustain the nation’s trade and exports with China, Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years.

MATRADE's continuous presence in CAEXPO will also align with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China this year.

This event is one of the approved programmes under the economic pillar for the anniversary celebration, spearheaded by MITI.

Adding to the significance, Malaysia will be the country of honour, entailing special highlights and a significantly larger pavilion. This expanded space will enable a wider range of Malaysian companies to showcase their capabilities.

Malaysian companies participating in CAEXPO 2024 will gain increased brand visibility as well as expanded networks through valuable connections established with potential customers and trade visitors visiting the Malaysia Pavilion.

MATRADE’s support to participating companies include product selection sessions with potential buyers, sharing of market intelligence and insights on consumer preferences, trends and regulations, live streaming sessions by Key Opinion Leaders (KOL), a durian and coffee shopping festival, as well as media coverage and publicity.
