Three men killed in accident while repairing trailer roadside

KUANTAN: Three men were killed after being hit by a four-wheel drive vehicle while they were repairing a broken-down trailer at the roadside at KM57, Central Spine Road (Kampung Gua Tagang), Merapoh, Kuala Lipis, on Monday (Sept 23).

Kuala Lipis district police chief Supt Ismail Man said those killed in the 2.35am incident were the broken-down trailer's driver, Mohd Izani Mohd Yusoff, 31; the driver of another trailer who had stopped to help, Mohd Aizad Rosdi, 27 and Mohd Aizad's assistant, Rushaidee Rusli, 22.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the four-wheel drive vehicle, travelling in the same direction, went out of control and struck the rear left corner of the broken-down trailer before hitting the victims, who were repairing the trailer.

"The trailer driver and the attendant were on their way from Tanah Merah, Kelantan, to Selangor to deliver timber when their vehicle experienced brake failure, forcing them to stop on the shoulder of the exit lane from Kampung Merapoh.

"Another trailer from the same company stopped in front of the broken-down vehicle to offer assistance. While repairs were being carried out, a pickup suddenly went out of control and struck the rear left corner of the broken-down trailer, hitting the victims,” he said in a statement.

Ismail said the driver of the four-wheel drive, Mohd Khairul Azhar Mohd Nor, and the attendant of the broken-down trailer, Wan Muhammad Syafiq Wan Hanafi, were seriously injured and sent to Gua Musang Hospital in Kelantan.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
