LANGKAWI: A driver trying to pick up his phone accidentally pressed the accelerator and crashed into several shoplots in Jalan Pantai Chenang here.

Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari said the 23-year-old driver was driving from Lorong Sultan Abdul Halim 2 when he reached for his mobile phone at about 12.30 noon on Monday (Sept 23).

"His action caused his vehicle to crash into the shoplots at the roadside," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 23).

ACP Shariman however said no casualty was reported from the incident while the weather was clear at the time.

The case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
