KAJANG: Cultural exchanges have profoundly enriched the longstanding friendship between China and Malaysia, acting as a crucial link that strengthens the emotional bonds between the two nations, says Chang Shan, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia.
The Cultural Affairs Department of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia counsellor said that in recent years, cultural and artistic cooperation between China and Malaysia has become increasingly rich and diverse.
"With the implementation of mutual visa exemption policies, exchanges between the people of both countries have become more convenient and efficient, deepening cultural ties," Chang said during her speech at Malaysia and China 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations performance event on Tuesday (Sept 24).
She stressed that Malaysia is a country that excellently preserves and passes down traditional Chinese culture.
"Besides China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, Malaysia is the only country with a complete Chinese education system. This is unparalleled in Southeast Asia and globally," she added.
Chang credited the vibrant and enduring Chinese culture in Malaysia to the relentless efforts and significant contributions of the Chinese Malaysian community.
"Without your dedication to preserving tradition and your innovative spirit, we would not see the thriving Chinese culture we have in Malaysia today," she said.
The event featured a special performance by the China National Opera House, part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.
"Music transcends language and cultural barriers. It touches the soul and connects people, no matter where they are," Chang said.
"Tonight's performance features talented singers from Beijing, representing the top-tier China National Opera House. They will present a series of captivating performances, many of which will be familiar to the audience."
The performance was held at New Era College Hall, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Malaysia-China Friendship Association.
Chang emphasized that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.
"Over the past five decades, the friendship between China and Malaysia has grown stronger," she added.
"During Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's visit to China last year, President Xi Jinping and Anwar reached a significant consensus on building a shared future for China and Malaysia, setting the direction for the development of bilateral relations in the new era,” she said.
She also noted that Chinese Premier Li Qiang's official visit to Malaysia in June led to a joint statement promoting further cooperation between the two countries, elevating their relationship to new heights.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, concluded a successful four-day state visit to China on Sunday (Sept 22).
Chang said the trip further enriched the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
