A WOMAN in Tamil Nadu died after getting bitten by a snake dragged into her home by her cat, Makkal Osai reported.
Shanti, 58, who lived in Coimbatore with her husband and son, have a pet cat that is free to roam.
The cat was believed to have spotted a snake outside the house, dragged it in and left it in the room where Shanti was sleeping.
The highly venomous Bengal krait, which was agitated by the cat, ended up biting the sleeping woman.
Shanti’s screams alerted her son, who rushed her to hospital. However, she died despite intensive treatment.> A biography of the late Malaysian writer, journalist and newspaper publisher Ilaiya Tamilavel Aathi Kumanan has been included in the Tamil University in Tamil Nadu, Makkal Osai reported.Copies of the book were handed over to the university’s library director Dr C. Velmurugan by the book’s author P. Malaiyandi at a meeting recently.Malaiyandi, who is also a photographer for Makkal Osai, said the book has been included for circulation at public libraries in Aathi Kumanan’s ancestral towns of Nagapattinam and Pollachi.The late writer had influence on the Malaysian literary, publishing and political scene. His work and achievements would hopefully reach the Tamil diaspora through the book, said Malaiyandi.
