Mahkota polls: Nurul Izzah urges all voters to cast their ballot on polling day

KLUANG: Every vote counts in the Mahkota by-election to elect the Barisan Nasional candidate, says Nurul Izzah Anwar (pic).

The PKR vice-president urged all voters, not just the Chinese, to head out in droves to cast their vote come polling day on Sept 28.

“This is not just one party’s affair, it is a democratic Malaysian affair,” she said after visiting sick residents in Taman Ilham here on Tuesday (Sept 24).

When asked to comment on Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed’s statement on Tuesday that DAP would feel embarrassed if they could not get Chinese votes for Mahkota, Nurul Izzah said the government’s ability to govern and represent the people must always be based on humility.

She added that it was important for leaders, whether at the national or local levels, to close ranks when trying to solidify support and win over voters.

“I came here with the spirit of camaraderie and friendship,” she said, describing themselves as being on the battlefield, trying to win over and convince the voters to give them their full support.

She stressed that every vote was valuable and hoped that all eligible voters would head out to vote in the upcoming by-election.

The Mahkota by-election is a straight fight between Barisan candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, and Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61.

The by-election is held following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

The seat has an electoral roll of 66,318 voters, consisting of 61,397 regular voters.
