PETALING JAYA: Sirim Bhd wants to leverage the wide reach of Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) to share its information and initiatives with the Malaysian public.Its chairman Datuk Dr Khairol Anuar Tawi said he was impressed with The Star’s far-reaching impact.
“It’s a responsible and respectable paper in terms of news coverage, providing and disseminating information,” he said during a visit to the media company’s headquarters in Menara Star here yesterday.
He added that with SMG’s reach, information and initiatives from Sirim (formerly known as Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia) could be effectively shared with the Malaysian public.
“This engagement (we have with SMG) is useful for seeing how we can collaborate,” he said.
Khairol Anuar was leading the Sirim top brass on their first visit to SMG. The others were the company’s president and group chief executive officer Datuk Indera Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, group chief marketing officer Faisal Shukor as well as special officers Adib Yusof and Mohd Helmi Meswan.
SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt welcomed the visitors and also spoke about possible collaborations, especially in the area of environmental, social and governance (ESG).
Earlier, the delegation was taken on a tour of the Star Gallery to get insights into SMG’s history and evolution through to the modern era with the advent of digital platforms, its events and social impact.
They then visited the newsroom, where they were briefed on the daily operations of the newspaper and its online site as well as the iconic stories through the decades.
The group also toured the studios of SMG’s radio stations, 988 and Suria, and took the opportunity to hop onto the radio announcers’ chairs for a photo.
Besides Chan, other SMG leaders on hand to receive the group from Sirim were chief business officer Lydia Wang, managing editor Brian Martin and senior general manager (client brand marketing) Sharon Lee.
