IPOH: One hiking trail in Cameron Highlands remains closed to the public owing to the risk of falling trees while the rest have been reopened.
District forestry officer Arifhadi Johari Affandi said the trail heading to Gunung Irau was still closed following cases of trees being uprooted during recent storms.
“We have opened about 30 other hiking trails, which are deemed safe for recreational activities,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Sept 25).

Still, Arifhadi advised hikers to take precautionary measures on the listed trails.
“They must get a permit from the department first and can do so online.
“With the monsoon season approaching, the weather may get very bad at times, so I hope visitors and hikers take all the necessary precautions.
“If it starts raining midway through your trek, please turn back and do not continue, for your safety," he stressed.

He said the department’s officers are monitoring the situation, and always advise visitors not to enter the forest without a permit.

The closure was for five days as a precaution, based on the weather forecast by the Meteorological Department.
