KUALA LUMPUR: There have been more than 20,000 commercial crimes involving losses exceeding RM1.7bil so far this year, says Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director said that between Jan 1 and Sept 22, 21,441 cases were recorded, with losses of RM1.78bil.
"The number of cases showed an 11% decline compared to the same period last year, with 23,958 cases recorded.

"However, the amount of losses have spiked some 24% compared to RM1.4bil last year," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Sept 25).
Comm Ramli said 10,198 or 48% of investigation papers (IP) were successfully prosecuted this year
"It is more than last year where 43% of IPs were prosecuted," he added.
He said the police would double their efforts to curb and prevent commercial crimes.
"We urge every segment of society to always be alert and spread commercial crime prevention messages," he said.
