Couple detained in child abuse case in Kluang

KLUANG: Police have arrested a couple to help with an investigation following a child abuse case involving a three-year-old boy.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said police were notified about the case on Tuesday (Sept 24) at 9.50pm by a doctor at the emergency ward of Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK).

“The doctor has informed us that the medical examination revealed that the child has been physically abused based on the injuries on his body.

“On Wednesday (Sept 25) at 1.50am, a team of police from the Kluang district arrested a man and woman in their 20’s at the hospital grounds,” he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin added that the background check revealed that both suspects have no priors and tested negative for drugs.

“Both suspects are currently under remand for seven days starting Sept 25,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for exposing children to danger, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years or a fine or both.

Those who have information on the case are encouraged to go to any nearest police station or call the Kluang IPD hotline at 07-7766822.
