MELAKA: A former head of the Transport Management Planning Division of Pos Malaysia Bhd was slapped with a fine totalling RM170,000 by the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here after he pleaded guilty to 17 alternative charges of receiving bribes amounting to RM133,000.
Judge Elesabet Paya Wan meted out the sentence yesterday.
Based on the facts of the case, Hazri Mokhtar, 45, had failed to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or police regarding the acceptance of RM133,000 as an inducement that Pos Malaysia expedite payments to OnxOn Logistik Sdn Bhd for outsourcing line haul and shuttle services in Sabah and Sarawak.
Hazri committed the offence at Bank Simpanan Nasional Melaka at Jalan Munshi Abdullah and Maybank Melaka at Graha Peladang, Jalan Hang Tuah here between July 8, 2020, and Oct 11, 2021.
He was charged under Section 25(1) of the MACC Act, which is punishable under Section 25(2) of the same Act, which outlines a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than 10 years, or both, upon conviction.
The accused was represented by lawyer Mohammad Amir Aizat Abd Rani while the Deputy Public Prosecutor was Fatin Nur Athiran Zainudin.
The court imposed a fine of RM10,000 for each of the alternative charges or in default 51 months in prison.
