No electricity tariff hike in Sabah yet but future 'cost corrections' likely, says ECoS

KOTA KINABALU: Consumers in Sabah can rest assured that there are no immediate plans to raise electricity tariffs in the state.

However, Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said future adjustments may be necessary to align production and supply costs with consumer rates.

"At the moment, there is no plan to increase tariffs. However, there is a plan in the future to eventually implement subsidy rationalisation.

"The actual date for this has not been determined yet, but there will be cost corrections," he said on Wednesday (Sept 25) after the launch of ECoS' online platforms for data management and customer feedback here.

He said even then, such corrections would undergo a thorough assessment by the state government and require its approval.

These corrections would address the difference between production and supply costs with the current rates paid by consumers, he added.
