Siblings die after hitting dumpster

MELAKA: A five-year-old girl and her teenage brother died after their motorcycle rammed into a dumpster left on the road shoulder along Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh highway.

Nur Afiqah Sofea Hazlin and her 18-year-old brother Muhammad Amirul Hazlin died while being treated at Hospital Melaka, said Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

He said their motorcycle crashed into a Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) bin along the stretch at about 6.15pm on Monday.

“The siblings were on their way to visit their late father’s grave at Bertam Hulu for prayers before joining other family members for dinner,” he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

“We are also tracking down the owner of the RoRo as well as calling upon eye-witnesses to help in the probe.”
