Sitiawan fire incident now being probed as murder case, say cops


IPOH: The death of a man who was killed in a house fire in Sitiawan early Wednesday (Sept 25) is now being investigated as a possible murder.

Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said that a witness saw a male suspect entering the house before hearing loud thuds from the living room.

"The suspect then left the house and returned with two containers, believed to be filled with petrol. The suspect fled the scene before the witness noticed the fire.

"The victim's body has been sent to Hospital Permaisuri Raja Bainun in Ipoh for a postmortem examination," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 25).

Following the witness statement, he said the 39-year-old suspect was arrested near the scene.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"A seven-day remand has been granted for further investigation.

Police later said that the suspect and the victim were siblings.
