KUALA LUMPUR: Themed “Champion Women, Ignite Progress”, the 2024 World Women Economic & Business Summit (WWEBS2024) and Awards will be held tomorrow at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific with the World Digital Chamber and The Economic Club of Kuala Lumpur, the one-day summit focuses on the advancement of women in corporate leadership and entrepreneurship.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri will be delivering the opening address and there will be a special luncheon address by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia. Also gracing the event are the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike and other local and foreign dignitaries.

KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific president Tan Sri Michael Yeoh says this initiative aims to encourage and nurture an entrepreneurial spirit within the community, drive business performance for women in a corporate environment and transform local businesswomen into outstanding leaders who can contribute more to their organisation’s success.

The event will focus on supporting and advocating women in all aspects of society, and this includes promoting gender equality, providing equal opportunities for education and career advancement and ensuring that women have a voice in decision- making processes, Yeoh said.

“When we invest in women, we are investing in the future of our communities and our world. By championing women, we can ignite progress in areas such as economic growth, social development and innovation,” he added.

Meanwhile, WWEBS organising committee chairwoman Datuk Halimah Mohd Said said the summit will bring together seasoned female industry leaders, managers, executives and business owners who are breaking down boundaries and supporting one another.

This includes CEOs, presidents, senior vice-presidents and vice- presidents, directors, heads of departments, managers and other aspiring leaders to share ideas and their personal leadership struggles and accomplishments, she said.

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to network with leaders whose aim is to promote sustainable economic development through sustainability, impact, innovation and collaborations.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear and learn from global women influencers and opinion leaders from governments and businesses.

This can help them pave their road map for the future and discover what issues business leaders have to change to create a world that future generations want to live in, how leadership has developed in recent years and what kind of leaders we need for the challenges of tomorrow.

They can also learn about skills, missions and values that female and male leaders offer and how the society can benefit from this diversity, and how to ensure women and men can develop their leadership skills and make their talents available for business and society.

The summit has two plenary sessions, “Women in the Global Context: Issues and Challenges” and “Women in Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Opportunities and Trends”.

Panellists include Malaysia Assets senior vice-president Hasliza Othman, National Association of Businesswomen of Tajikistan (NABWT) founder Gulbakhor Makhkamova and Asean CIO Association Thailand president (cybersecurity & governance) Dr Carrine Teoh Chooi Shi.
