PETALING JAYA: Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has accepted Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's apology and reminded the Kedah Mentri Besar to be more mindful when making public statements.

The Sultan of Selangor said he had considered and accepted the apology in the name of Muslim spirit of brotherhood.

"I do not want Muslims to be at odds with each other. We must always forgive if there is a sincere request for forgiveness," he said in a Selangor Royal Office Facebook post on Thursday (Sept 26).

His Royal Highness also told the Kedah Mentri Besar to maintain decorum and civility, avoid being emotional and not to use inappropriate language when addressing the public.

"I do not want the people, particularly in Selangor, to be influenced by hard words and baseless accusations from leaders", said Sultan Sharafuddin, who also wished Sanusi all the best in exercising his duties.

Earlier on Thursday, Sanusi apologised to Sultan Sharafuddin over his remarks made when campaigning in Selayang in July 11, 2023, which criticised the state ruler for appointing Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Selangor Mentri Besar.

Sanusi gave his word that he would be more careful when making statements in future and to ensure that his speech is in line with the Malay customs, which are highly respectful of Malay rulers and the royal institution.

The Jeneri assemblyman and PAS national election director had previously sent a letter of apology to the Sultan shortly after making his speech, including an explanation claiming that the issue had been "spun" to defame him.

However, on July 17, the Sultan said that the matter was not resolved despite the apology letter from Sanusi.

Sanusi was charged a day later with making seditious remarks but pleaded not guilty.
